A local small business showing its holiday spirit was hit by thieves. Police said two people stole a light display meant to attract customers.

The Christmas light display was a beacon to let the public know Plant Wisdom Garden Center’s greenhouse is open during the winter. Unfortunately, it attracted the wrong customers.

The light display showing off the greenhouse had only been out of the box for a night when it must have caught the eye of passersby.

“It was just kind of right here projecting where you could see it from the street,” said Alex Wisdom, garden center co-owner.

A security camera caught an SUV pulling up next to the outdoor area, and another camera captured a man milling around.

“He walked around out there for a while then came back in,” said Wisdom. “That’s when he’s loading up the bag.”

Another person got out of the SUV and also grabbed some merchandise.

The business owners are not sure why two people driving what appears to be a nice car would rip-off their small business.

“We’re not a big business,” said Wisdom. “So what we lose, even just a little bit, it’s kind of a big hit especially stuff we planned on selling as Christmas gifts.”

Wisdom said the thieves took the light display, decorations, numerous plants and a heater meant to keep tropical plants alive during cold months.

“Thankfully this was kind of late in the morning,” said Wisdom. “If they would have done it earlier in the night we probably would have lost a lot in the greenhouse.”

Police are investigating the theft and said the people in the video may not be seen clearly, but their car may give them away.

“They drove up in what appears to be a very nice SUV,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “You don’t always see that. It’s just one more identifier that hopefully someone will recognize and be able to give us information.”

Business owners said they had another theft the following night, but it appeared to be a different person.
