A $2 million grant from the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board is helping to bolster STEM materials in every Oklahoma school district.

Every Oklahoma school district is getting a piece of the pie. All they have to do it fill out an application outlining what they plan to do with the money.

For the past 20 years, OERB has been providing STEM-related educational resources and classroom materials to Oklahoma schools.

"We've seen teachers even cry. They are so excited to get the resources in their classroom. They don't have to go out and pay for it out of their pockets because the school district doesn't have the money," OERB Executive Director Mindy Stitt said.

In 2003, Stitt said OERB gave $1 million to Oklahoma schools.

She said this year, after hearing feedback from the hundreds of teachers who attend their workshops, they decided it was time to help out with another grant.

Applications will be sent out in January.

Once filled out, each district will receive a minimum of $500.

The money is based on enrollment and percentage of low income students, with Oklahoma City getting the biggest chunk of money of more than $160,000.

Stitt said the districts will have to apply and outline what they plan to purchase. The only requirement is that the money be used for STEM-related resources.
