Forestry Crews Hope To Set Controlled Burn At Martin Nature Park

Oklahoma Forestry Services is waiting for the right time to get rid of some dry fuel at a metro park.

The brush in the northwest part of Martin Nature Park runs up to apartments. The Kilpatrick Turnpike is close by, and so is Mercy Hospital.

The plan is to burn back 7-acres before something catastrophic happens.

“The reason of a Martin Park type of burn has taken so long is because of its location,” said Drew Daily with the OK. Forestry Services.

The City says it has had this plan for years, but conditions have never been just right.

The wind with the smoke is a major factor when considering a fire in such a populated area, according to Daily.

Forestry crews hope to do the burn at some point in the next six weeks.

Daily says if the metro gets some moisture this week, they may ignite the brush next week.
