Teachers and staff at Central Elementary School in Yukon have been hard at work scrubbing and sanitizing classrooms. The district cancelled classes at the school for Wednesday, December 13 after roughly 115 of the 373 students were absent Tuesday afternoon. Many of them were reportedly sick with confirmed cases of the flu. Several teachers were also out.

Superintendent Dr. Jason Simeroth said custodial staff set off anti-flu bombs in the classrooms late Tuesday. And Wednesday morning, teachers arrived for round two of cleaning. They sanitized everything down to crayons and markers.

Classes will resume Thursday, December 14. Dr. Simeroth hopes the folks who are still ill will stay home.

“We can clean and we’ll continue to clean,” Dr. Simeroth said, "but the minute you send a kid in there that’s sick, the defenses that we’ve put up are minimalized. So really, we need the help of all the folks at home to keep those little darlings home if they’re sick and the teachers too.”
