Thursday morning will be special for the 200 children who attend Geary Elementary School. Members of Geary High School’s technology engineering class will stop by on a school bus to drop off more than 600 Christmas presents.

Many Geary families lack the income to buy Christmas presents for their children.

The high school technology engineering class began a service project just after Thanksgiving. Their goal initially was to provide one gift for children in the younger grades at the elementary school.

Technology engineering teacher Cody McPherson says because of an outpouring of support from the community, the high school volunteers raised enough money to purchase three gifts for each student at the elementary school.

“That’s exactly what this is about,” McPherson said. "We’ve got 200 kids and if one kid, this is his only Christmas present, with all the hours after school, pre-school, weekends, it will all be worth it."

McPherson will drive a school bus filled with the presents and, along with his elves, deliver the gifts to the elementary school Thursday morning. Each child will receive a coloring book, a large box of crayons. Girls will get Barbie dolls and boys will get miniature monster trucks.
