The man who led police on a three-hour chase on November 10 is facing eight charges. On Tuesday, Brenton Hager’s attorney was at the courthouse to represent him at a preliminary hearing conference.
Kyle McCallum from McCallum Law Office in Hugo made the trip to Cleveland County to meet with the district attorney’s office. He told News 9 that Hager’s friend called him during the chase.

The pursuit started in Oklahoma City after a stolen truck was spotted. The chase ended when Hager backed into a pond in Cleveland County and ran from law enforcement. An affidavit from the Cleveland County Courthouse details a deputy’s account.
“I deployed my taser hitting the defendant in the back and the buttocks,” he wrote.
Hager was then taken into custody.

McCallum said Hager wrote a letter in jail. He released it to News 9.
Hager writes:
"I want to apologize to my family, friends, local law enforcement and all those who were negatively affected by my recent actions. I understand that I will have to face the consequences of those actions. I am grateful that the officers involved handled the situation in a professional matter. At no time did I ever intend to put any other drivers or officers in danger. I know that there are no words which can make things right with the people that were harmed by my actions. I cannot apologize personally to anyone of while I am incarcerated but at some point I hope that I will not only be able to apologize in person but I will be able to make amends. I cannot explain why I made the choices that I did on that day. I guess I could blame it on fear, or selfishness, or just wanting a few more moments of freedom. At the time I just didn’t care I didn’t care if I lived long enough to be locked in a small cell for the indefinite future. But truthfully, I am so grateful that no one was hurt by my selfishness and that I am here today. I am grateful knowing that at some point I will have the opportunity to spend time with my family again.
Any promises that I make to be a better man will likely fall on deaf ears. After all, everyone looking at prison time promises to be better if given a second chance. So all I can say is that I am truly embarrassed by my actions. And I am hopeful that whatever my punishment is that each person who cares about me gives me a chance to prove that my recent actions aren’t an indication of the person that I can be."
Hager’s next court date is set for January 16, 2018.
