Baker Mayfield will not start in Oklahoma’s regular season finale against West Virginia on Saturday, head coach Lincoln Riley announced Monday.
Mayfield will play in the game and Riley didn’t divulge how much time the Heisman candidate would miss. The punishment stems from a sideline tirade during OU’s 41-3 win against Kansas. Jayhawks captains declined to shake hands with Mayfield at the coin toss and play was chippy from the opening kick.
After throwing his third touchdown pass, Mayfield was seen yelling obscenities and grabbing his crotch toward the KU sideline.
After the game, Mayfield tweeted an apology note to Sooner and Jayhawk fans and Kansas coaches and players for disrespecting them.
