Historic 23rd Street Tower Theatre To Screen “2001: Space Odyssey”

OKLAHOMA CITY -

After decades of darkness, the movie screen at Tower Theatre will come to life with Stanley Kubrick’s cult classic “2001: Space Odyssey” on Monday, November 13.

“I spent a lot of time considering what films we would show first at the Tower Theatre,” says Stephen Tyler, Operating Partner. “I wanted to respect and honor the history of the Tower. By picking films that resonate with the times past, present and future.”

Tower Theatre Cinema debuts by screening “2001: Space Odyssey” on Monday, November 13 and “The Fifth Element” on Tuesday, November 14.

Movies shown at Tower Theatre Cinema will be a mix of classics, independent films and fan favorites. Movie-goers will enjoy films from the original Tower Theatre seats, completely renovated and reupholstered. Theatre snacks include popcorn, candy and a full bar.

“Tower Theatre has a rich history we wanted to include in the movie-going experience,” says Tyler. “We nod to the past with architectural details and original seats while embracing modern technology with the installation of our 4k projection system.”

Extensive cinema renovations included the installation of a state-of-the art, 4k digital projection system, surround sound and 25-foot ceiling recessed screen. In addition, Tower Theatre has future plans to restore the 1954 Philips Norelco DP70 projector, one of only 1500 ever produced, that played films at Tower Theatre from 1963 until 1986.

The December 1 screening of Louis C.K.'s "I Love You, Daddy" has been canceled due to the recent allegations concerning Louis C.K. All ticket holders will be refunded.

For more information, visit the theater's website. Tower Theatre is also an iconic live music venue, located at 425 NW 23rd Street in historic Uptown 23rd.
