The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma needs the community’s help in winning a $25,000 grant from Starbucks Upstanders Challenge. Through the competition, The Starbucks Foundation will award 25 grants of $25,000 each to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits organizations that reflect the values of Upstanders – people or organizations creating positive change within their communities. The 25 winners will be selected from the charities whose videos generate the most “buzz” through likes and shares on social media channels. The Regional Food Bank’s video can be found at http://www.regionalfoodbank.org/upstanders.

“This is a fun and interactive way for the community to help us win a $25,000 grant,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Receiving the grant would help provide 125,000 meals for Oklahomans living with hunger. I encourage everyone to take a few moments to watch, like and share the video.”

The Regional Food Bank submitted a two-minute video that focuses on the nonprofit’s Retail Recovery Program, which recovered more than $30 million worth of food last year alone. The quality, nutritious food is recovered from local food manufacturers, groceries and retailers like Starbucks. The video also highlights the Regional Food Bank’s USDA-certified Protein Processing Center that provides high quality meat to the clients served through the nonprofit’s community-based partner agencies.

The Upstanders Challenge ends Oct. 31 and winners will be announced by Nov. 30. This is the second year for the challenge that identifies and celebrates people or organizations who do not act as bystanders, but instead make positive change in their community.
