A Tulsa couple is cleaning up after police say a neighbor drove a car into their house near 4th and Memorial then refused to come out.

The driver left behind a lot of damage when he went barreling through the home. A beam that used to line the top of the carport was knocked down to the ground.

Officers were called to the 500 block of South 79th East Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 3.

Police say the driver was intoxicated, and he refused to come out of the car when officers and firefighters arrived on scene. News On 6 was there as Tulsa Police officers used riot shields and guns to get him out and arrest him.

"I don't know what he was going through but it must have been bad for him to drive that car into her house like that," said Dylan Axsom.

We watched as the driver screamed and tried to wrestle off police.

Jessica Esparza says she's been friends with the driver for more than 20 years and was surprised to find out what happened Tuesday morning.

"He's gone through a lot of stuff lately and I know he went to the bar last night and I know sometimes, it brings it out in people," she said.

Esparza says the driver is a good guy and hopes he's not defined by this one incident.

"He'd do anything for me and my family, so yeah, this is a big shock to me," Jessica Esparza said.

The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Police say no one was hurt and the house is going to be OK.
