Oklahoma State University's top assistant basketball coach turned himself over to U.S Marshals around 9 a.m., Wednesday. That afternoon, Evans was released on a $50,000 bond.

Lamont Evans was federally indicted in New York and is among four college coaches accused of taking part in a fraud and corruption scheme.

The affidavit pertaining to Evans involves 11 counts, including conspiracy to commit bribery, solicitation of bribes and gratuities and wire fraud.

Evans, who's entering his second year at OSU, is accused of taking at least $22,000 in bribe money to steer athletes to financial advisers. The investigation dates back to 2015 and allegedly continued as recently as September.

Following the announcement, OSU officials said they were surprised by the federal investigation involving  the nationwide bribery scheme. They also said the university maintains high standards of conduct, and that deviation from those standards would not be tolerated.

Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder released a statement Wednesday afternoon:

I want to reiterate that Oklahoma State University was shocked by the allegations made yesterday against one of our assistant men's basketball coaches. We learned about the allegations the same way most people did through media reports. The allegations are serious and they violate everything we stand for as an athletic department and university. As we have already stated, we will cooperate with federal officials and coordinate with the NCAA as we move forward with looking into this matter to the fullest extent. Let me underscore, we expect every person affiliated with our athletic program to conduct themselves with integrity and to comply with the rules and the law.

Thursday afternoon, Evans was officially terminated from the Cowboy men's basketball team. The university announced the decision with a single line in a release.

"Oklahoma State University announced today that assistant basketball coach Lamont Evans has been terminated for cause."
