Police arrested a man following a fatal shooting at a Tulsa apartment complex early Wednesday.

Detectives said they arrested Devonte Spivey, 22, in connection to Tulsa's 65th murder of 2017.

Homicide detectives said the suspect initially told them he was helping the victim move out of his apartment. About that same time, neighbors at Somerset Park Apartments said they heard something suspicious coming from the victim's apartment.

"We got the neighbors who heard a disturbance and a thud," said Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker.

Walker said the victim was in bad shape when he was found at the Somerset Park Apartments near 65th and Mingo at about 12:30 a.m.

He said the victim, who was shot in the head, died at around 6:30 a.m after he was taken to the hospital.

Walker said Devonte Spivey who met with officers at the complex after shooting and acted as if he had no knowledge of how the victim was shot.  But after police reviewed surveillance video provided by the apartment complex, Spivey was questioned again and retracted his earlier statement.

Spivey was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint.

We talked with a neighbor who was surprised to hear about the shooting, saying it's usually quiet in her area.

"I feel all right," said Lisa Benitez. "I mean, I know it's safe. We've got cameras and stuff.

The name of the victim has not been released.
