The New York Giants waived Tulsa-native Michael Bowie as a result of his arrest for domestic assault.

Bowie is charged with attacking his girlfriend earlier this year.

Bowie turned himself in at the Tulsa County Jail Monday, August 21, 2017, and was booked on charges of domestic assault and battery and malicious injury or destruction of property.

Prosecutors said Bowie went to his girlfriend’s home and got mad at her because he didn’t like the way she’d talked to his mother.

Officers said he broke two televisions and punched a hole in the wall.

Bowie’s agent, Peter Schaffer told ESPN, “We thoroughly investigated this. Michael’s girlfriend did not want to press charges, never said there was any physical contact and we don’t know why the district attorney is moving forward. We’ve been in touch with the Giants and the league. We’re obviously going to have to let it play out in the judicial system. Michael’s biggest issue is that he feels horrible that he’s brought any negative light to the Giants and the NFL. He just wants to focus on trying to make the ballclub.”

The Giants signed Bowie back in January as an offensive tackle but he was released Wednesday.

In a statement on the Giants website, General Manager Jerry Reese said, “We have waived Michael Bowie. As we have already stated, we were made aware of this situation on Saturday. The league has started to gather more information. That process will continue. The outcome of that process will determine whether there is another opportunity here for Michael.”
