Edmond Police said a suspected gunman is in custody hours after a shooting outside Pelco Products, Inc.

Officers reported at least one person was shot while walking in to work around 5:30 a.m.

Several employees placed outgoing calls to officers shortly after shots rang out. Some witnesses barricaded themselves in the building and on-site loading dock until police arrived.

“I’m at Pelco Products in Edmond. We’ve got gunshots in the parking lot,” one employee told the dispatcher.

A few employees attended to the victim, administering first-aid before paramedics reached the scene. After police arrived, several officers drew their attention to a victim on the west end of the parking lot.

EMSA said the victim was wounded twice, including in the arm and chest.  Paramedics transported the victim to OU Medical Center, in a nonlife-threatening condition.

As the investigation continued, employees assisted officers with a description of the suspect’s vehicle. According to police, some employees recalled a similar description of the suspect's car in the company parking lot just a day before.

Employees were later cleared to return inside. No immediate arrests were made.

Police pursued the suspect for several hours before arresting a person of interest in the afternoon. Officers located a car matching the description of witnesses at a residence near Hefner and May. Police also recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle which officers said appeared to be compatible with the victim's wounds.

According to the investigation, the victim filed a police report with Edmond Police a year prior concerning harassing texts and phone calls from an anonymous person. The report included details alleging the harassment continued for more than one year.

Investigators verified the suspect's phone number was consistent with the contact on the victim’s phone.

After hours of questioning, police say the suspect confessed to the crime. The suspect is also a former employee of Pelco Products, Inc.

So far, police have not determined a motive.
