MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -

Katie Hawk's foxhound Henry was one of countless animals who had a hard time with fireworks shows and thunder storms.

And he would do whatever it took to escape.

“He was willing to break his own teeth and chew the fence,” Hawk explained.

But she said Henry always made it back to her because of the information on his tag.

Katie is now the president of a non-profit called Good Dogma -- a group with an engraver, on a mission to help other pets get home fast and avoid ending up in the shelter.

“Our motto is the more tags on wags, the less paws in prison,” Hawk said.

Midwest City Animal Welfare Supervisor Adrian Sanders said this time of year, every year, family pets without ID become strays and flood the shelter.

“In a small facility like ours, the increase of animals puts a huge amount of strain on us,” Sanders told News 9.

Of course the hope is that pets don't escape in the first place.

Sanders said pet owners can bring the animals inside during the holidays, turning on a TV or radio to help distract from the fireworks. Or make sure the fence surrounding them outside is properly secured.

But if the cracks and booms overwhelm them and they do break free, having an up-to-date tag is your best bet at a safe reunion.
