A shooting in Okmulgee turned into an almost two-hour standoff causing the evacuation of several area homes.

The standoff ended with police taking shooting suspect Michael Eagan into custody, but not after some residents were told to leave their homes.

Misty Grisham said her boyfriend walked outside their mobile home early Wednesday morning and saw a man shot on the ground with police.

"Then, just a few minutes later the cops come up to the door and they asked us, you know, if anybody was in the house besides us and we was like, you know, it’s just us,” she said.

The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office said they were called to a shooting in the early morning hours. When officers arrived, they found the victim.

Deputies thought Eagan was inside the mobile home park and called in a special operations team.

Grisham said, "Oh yeah, I was very scared. It was, I’ve never been this close to something happening epically, you know, 20 feet from where I live - that's a really uneasy feeling, especially not knowing what's going on."

After about an hour and a half, the sheriff’s office arrested Eagan, 40, when he surrendered.

"I know the cops did a really good job last night. I mean, they did what they had to do to protect themselves and that's was what's important," Grisham said.

Eagan was booked into the Okmulgee County jail on a charge of shooting with intent to kill.
