Gundy Clarifies OSU Is Where He Wants To Be

Weeks ago, when the “Mike Gundy to Baylor” fire was at its hottest, adding fuel to that fire was the report that Gundy had a contract extension at OSU that had not yet been signed. Thursday, he explained why it had yet to be signed.

“In order for that to happen, both parties have to come to an agreement, and that hadn't taken place,” said Gundy.

Over the summer, the OSU board of regents unanimously approved a two-year contract extension for Gundy which would keep him in Stillwater through 2021 and pay him $4.15 million each year, the same as he will make in the final year of his current deal that ends in 2019.

The deal was supposed to go into effect July 1 of this year, but obviously, that didn't happen.

"There's no reason to hide it,” stated Gundy. “There's not really any reason to talk about it. Hopefully, that can happen, though. Just because we haven't come to an agreement is not a negative. That's just a business part of what we do."

Gundy also made it clear that Stillwater is where he wants to be.

"I love being at Oklahoma State,” he said. “This is who I am. This is what I believe in. This is always where I want to be. But, there is a small side to what I do that's a business."
