OKLAHOMA CITY -

Once thought to be a top pick, reports now say Governor Mary Fallin is no longer President-elect Donald Trump's choice for the Secretary of the Interior.

According to a source with knowledge of the meeting last month, Fallin's interview was "rough”. The source echoes a report by the Wall Street Journal, that Fallin was unable to answer questions about the potential selling of federal lands.

Fallin told reporters inside Trump Tower after the meeting it was “just an initial meeting to discuss a wide range of topics.”

“This is political “Apprentice,” News 9 Political Analyst Scott Mitchell said, referencing the popular television show Mr. Trump starred in and executive produced. “You have to sit in a room with this guy and go through a process and you better be on top.”

With experience in tourism and making deals with native tribes and energy companies, Fallin emerged early on to be the qualified candidate. Instead, a report from The New York Times says Washington State Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rogers (R) could be Trump's pick.

Last week, Fallin declined to talk specific policy ideas for the Department of the Interior after being named a Vice-Chair to the Trump Transition.

“In the end it's a decision for President Trump. It'll also be his agenda and his policies that whoever happens to be Interior Secretary will carry out,” she said.

The door to the White House isn't officially closed to Fallin. Trump hasn't formally announced his pick and there are still a number of open positions, although it's unclear if Fallin would be willing to take one.
