One man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the southbound side of Interstate 35, late Wednesday night.

It happened around 10:30 p.m., just north of the NE 36th St. exit. According to the report, a semi drove off the road for an unknown reason and crashed into a bridge rail, then continued on for about 50 yards and collided with a tree before coming to a stop.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Julius Larosa Durant Jr., of Pikesville, MD.,  was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the crash occurred hours ago, it still caused headaches for commuters Thursday morning. Traffic on the highway was shut down to one lane between NE 36th St. and NE 50th St. while crews worked the scene.
