OKLAHOMA CITY -

Today marks 75 years since the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the pivotal event that launched the United States in World War II.

75 years is a long time but not long enough for many Americans to forget what happened on December 7, 1941. We met a veteran, Sheridan Marquardt, Apprentice Seaman US Naval Reserve, who was 15 years old at the time but says that the events of Pearl Harbor inspired him to enlist in the military.

"It woke them up. They were asleep in Pearl harbor and they were asleep in the U.S. but it woke everybody up and everybody came together and they did what they had to do."

429 sailors aboard the battleship USS Oklahoma died in the attack.

The local Fleet Reserve Association will commemorate to anniversary starting at 7:30 a.m., at the Oklahoma Memorial at the capital. Other veterans will be meeting at 11 a.m. near the USS Oklahoma anchor in Automobile Alley.
