LUTHER, Oklahoma -

Early Tuesday morning, firefighters hosed down hot spots near 7th and Dogwood in Luther.

A fire destroyed the home on the corner and took the life of Tony Taylor.

Tony Taylor's wife Juanita survived and is out of the hospital.

The death of her husband comes just months after their 25-year-old son was killed in a car crash.

“It hurts to lose a son and now they’ve lost another person in the family as well,” said Chris Hill.

Hill is the minister of the Luther Church of Christ, where he said Tony Taylor had attended in the past. The couple went to Wilshire Church of Christ in Oklahoma City.

Hill packed food and visited the family after this overwhelming loss.

Those close to him said Tony Taylor was a hard-working, generous and humble man.

“He was one that was always willing to do anything,” Hill said.

Tony Taylor was very involved with the Luther Community Service Center, run by Mark Hagewood.

Hagewood said the work they do to help families in need, during the holidays and year round, would not be possible without volunteers like Tony Taylor.

“We knew we could depend on him and what he would do would be good work, always,” Hagewood told News 9. “I have no doubt that the Taylor family will have people standing in line to try to help them out.”

The Taylors also have a teenage daughter, who was not home at the time of the fire.

A GoFundMe account was created to help the family.

The Wilshire Church of Christ is also accepting donations for the family, if anyone would like to drop something off.
