Mayfield and Westbrook are two of five finalists, along with Louisville's Lamar Jackson, Michigan's Jabrill Peppers and Clemson's Deshaun Watson.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.

Mayfield, who was also named the winner of the Burlsworth Trophy on Monday, threw for 3,669 yards this season to go with 38 touchdowns through the air and six more on the ground. Mayfield leads the nation in pass efficiency rating (197.8), completion percentage (71.2) and yards per pass attempt (11.1) while he’s also a finalist for the Maxwell Award (collegiate player of the year) and Davey O’Brien Award (quarterback of the year).

Mayfield finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season but wasn’t invited to New York for the ceremony.

As Mayfield’s No. 1 option through the air, Westbrook has 1,465 receiving yards this season to go with 16 receiving touchdowns, 12 of which have been 40 yards out or longer, which is the most by an FBS player since 1998. Westbrook ranks first in the Big 12 in receiving yards while his 2,097 career receiving yards are the most ever by an OU player in their first 24 games.

This is the first time two teammates were both invited to NYC as finalists since OU's Jason White and Adrian Peterson along with USC's Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush all went in 2004.

Both Mayfield and Westbrook will look to join the prestigious group of former OU Heisman winners that includes: Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White and Sam Bradford.
