Tuttle Residents Swindled In Christmas Decoration Scam

A person advertising to help hang Christmas lights for Tuttle residents is turning out to be a real Scrooge for residents. A number of residents say they have hired the man, some paying more than half of the total cost of materials, who then pockets the cash and doesn’t return.

An alleged scrooge is leaving neighbors without the Christmas lights he promised.

Instead, customers are handing over the money and never seeing the work done.

“They ordered $371 in materials,” said Connie Garrett about the money her parents paid up front.

Her parents responded to a Facebook ad and even called the man’s references, who spoke highly about his work. But when it came to hanging the lights, the work was never done and the home remains void of Christmas cheer.

“He kept putting them off for a week,” said Garrett.

The alleged conman claimed to be with "Next Level Roofing," but he doesn't work for them anymore.

“It would disgust me even if it wasn’t my company,” said Devon Simpson, who owns Next Level Roofing.

Simpson and Garrett posted about what happened on Facebook and heard from others in the metro who have claimed to have paid hundreds and were also left in the dark by the same man. Tuttle Police confirm reports have been filed.

“This was about taking money from people,” said Garrett.

News 9 called the man behind the alleged broken promises and left him a voicemail. News 9 has since learned that the man has agreed to repay or is making arrangements to repay at least three people back.

Garrett says he doesn’t think the repayments are due to the spirit of the season.

“I think he got scared,” added Garrett.
