People inside the Carmike Dunkin Theatre in Cushing had a scare Sunday night when the 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck.

Ben Stokes was watching Doctor Strange and he said it was no more than 20 minutes into the movie when he felt a strong jolt.

“We look to the front part of the theater up near the screen and part of the ceiling falls off. The power goes off. Everything is dark,” said Stokes.

He said there were about 50 to 75 people inside. At one point, Stokes thought it was part of the movie but he quickly realized they were feeling an earthquake.

He said it was a stampede of people trying to get out of the theater.

“I’m not going to lie. I made a dash to the door,” said Stokes.

Luckily, Stokes said no one was sitting where the ceiling caved in. There were no injuries.

The Dunkin Theatre was closed on Monday, along with several businesses downtown as damaged is being assessed.
