A Lexington woman who stared down medical advice to abort her pregnancy after a grim cancer diagnosis 18 months ago, has reached a milestone.

Amanda Meyer, 34, was a case manager for the Oklahoma County Family Drug Court, when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer 18 months ago. Meyer had just learned she was pregnant a few months before that. She gave birth to her daughter Ahna Marie Lynn last November. Ahna celebrated her first birthday on Friday.

Meyer urges everyone to get screened for colo-rectal cancer.

“It does not discriminate. Doesn’t matter how old you are, where you live, how much money you make. It just doesn’t matter,” she said.

Meyer and her family will celebrate Ahna’s birthday with Riley Castro and her family who are driving in from New Mexico. Riley, 26, has a one-year-old daughter, and is also dealing with Stage 4 Colon Cancer.
