A national manhunt for Michael Vance continues to day five. The U.S. Marshals Service is calling him a “violent fugitive” and stressing the importance of finding him before he hurts someone else.

City, county, state and federal officials are making a joint effort to take the 38-year-old suspect into custody. The FBI and USMS are leading the investigation.

On Sunday night around 6:30, three Wellston police officers responded to a call of shots fired. When they arrived on scene, everything seemed standard, but then Michael Vance found an opportunity to grab his AK-47 out of his truck.

Officer Jimmy Hampton and Officer Shawn Stewart were shot. Stewart was hit in both calves. Hampton took a shot in the foot.

Officer Hampton said, “I knew then it was my time to take care of him and that is what I did. I stayed there until I ran out of ammo.” Hampton said he was outgunned by Vance. He was able to shoot him at least once, and recalls Vance bleeding quite a bit.

Shots went flying, and eventually Vance jumped into a Wellston patrol pick-up and fled the scene.

He drove over to a mobile home park where he carjacked a couple. As he was driving out, he shot a woman named Hollie Ahern in the thigh. “The green laser from the gun was just right through here,” Ahern remembers.

It then got deadly. Vance took off to Luther, where he killed two family members, Ronnie and Kay Wilkson. Loved ones say Vance was a second cousin of Kay and do not understand why he shot them.

Jim Sproul, the Wilkson’s son-in-law, said the murder was brutal. He said, “This is the most heinous thing that I have ever dealt with in my life.” The family is mortified and fearing for their lives that Vance may return.

The affidavit for arrest warrant describes the scene. Investigators believe Vance shot Ronnie and attempted to decapitate him. They also believe Vance stabbed Kay to death and tried to cut off her arm.

Vance, once again, took off with their silver Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Investigators are seeing if Vance is connected to another shooting in Sayre on Monday morning around 2:30 a.m.

“I said what’s wrong? He said, Dickey, somebody shot me. Get me some help,” described Dickey Long. He said a suspect shot his friend after attempting to kidnap him in his RV. Surveillance video shows a small silver car taking of eastbound on I-40. Investigators are working to enhance the video to see if it matches the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

There have been no other confirmed sightings of Michael Vance.

A 24-hour hotline is being manned by the U.S. Marshals Service for tips on Michael Vance. Call 405-246-9205 for possible leads, or call your local law enforcement agency if you see Vance.
