Activist Elizabeth Smart, whose abduction was one of the most-followed cases in the nation, will join a panel of Oklahomans to speak at an event commemorating 35 years of crime victims' rights in Oklahoma.
Wednesday, October 19 marks the 35th anniversary of crime victims’ rights in Oklahoma. Thirty-five years ago, Oklahoma District Attorneys, led by Mike Turpen, walked the halls of the Capitol fighting for victims of crime. That was when the Oklahoma’s Crime Victims Compensation Program was created.
The Oklahoma District Attorneys Association and private donor will hold a half-day event, “Engaging Your Community. Envisioning The Future” on Wednesday at Will Rogers Theater.
Elizabeth Smart, whose abduction was one of the most-followed child abductions in the country, will keynote the event.
In addition to Smart’s presentation, a panel of Oklahomans who have been touched by crime will share their stories at the event. The event will kick off at 9:30 a.m. and will wrap up at 1:30 p.m.
