Big 12 Conference Will Not Expand

Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby and Big 12 chairman David Boren announced on Monday that the conference will not be expanding despite months of speculation.

"We decided to remain at 10 members," Boren said. "There were very strong series of commitments and comments to the Big 12's strength, stability."

Boren stressed that the decision not to expand was unanimous, and expressed deep gratitude to the schools interested in joining the conference.

Along with the expansion talk, Boren also said there would be no Big 12 TV network.

On a B12 TV network, Boren: "We found marketplace made a decision for us. Not something moving forward for us."

The news of no expansion was made official at the press conference following the meeting between the Big 12 Board of Directors, but Chip Brown from Horns Digest was first on the report earlier Monday afternoon.

The conference had approved exploration of expansion back in July when it was decided there would be a football championship game, but talks of adding to the Big 12 have been tabled, at least for now.
