The number of Oklahoma teenagers killed in car crashes is on the rise.
All across the country, car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers. According to AAA, 21 percent more Oklahoma teens were killed in crashes last year, compared to 2014.
Speeding remains the top mistake teens make behind the wheel. Of the nearly 14,000 fatal crashes involving teens nationwide in the last five years, more than 4,200 involved speeding.
The second most common mistake leading to deadly teen crashes is distracted driving.
New research funded by Ford finds a full third of teens are waiting until they're 18 to get their drivers licenses. Then, they are not subject to graduated licensing laws which may be resulting in more fatal crashes.
