Cherokee County law enforcement found the remains of a Park Hill man who was the subject of a Silver Alert in August.

Alvin Watts, 73, was reported missing to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office August 25, 2016.

Watts’ pickup truck was located by CCSO investigators on the morning of August 26 in the Cookson Game Refuge south of Cookson, Oklahoma in southern Cherokee County.

An extensive search was conducted, but searchers weren't able to locate Watts.

Several items of Watts' were located in early October, including clothing and his cell phone, in an area outside the Cookson Game Refuge, several miles away from the area where the original search was concentrated, CCSO said.

CCSO investigators locate Watts' remains approximately one-half of a mile inside of Adair County, Oklahoma.

CCSO's search effort included the Keys Fire Department, the Cherokee County District 3 Commissioner’s Office, Eastern Oklahoma K9 Search and Rescue Team and friends and family members of Watts.

An investigator from the Tulsa office of the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner took custody of Watts' remains and they were transported to Tulsa for positive identification.

Even though positive identification has not been made, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Watts' family members said they are confident that the remains are those of Watts due to articles of clothing and other personal belongings of his that were located in close proximity to the remains.

CCSO said they do not suspect foul play.
