ARDMORE, Oklahoma -

The countrywide clown scare has now taken hold of Oklahoma.

Two Plainview Middle School students were detained yesterday after posting bogus threats on a clown sighting site. Serious penalties may be on the way for students caught up in the most recent hoax out of Ardmore.

Ardmore police say the two students were detained after they were caught posting a photo of Plainview Middle School and message on a clown sighting website. As a precaution, they increased security at all local schools and placed others on lockdown.

Very few of these sightings or threats have proved credible, but police say they investigate every claim.

The two juveniles from Plainview were eventually released to their parents. The district attorney and Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs are now looking into the case and possible formal charges.

Police and school staff from Moore, Chickasha, and Edmond say they have all investigated killer clown threats.
