Stillwater police are looking for a potential witness or person of interest in a shooting, who ran away after leading authorities on a chase through several counties early Tuesday morning.

According to police, just before 1 a.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 1500 block N. Boomer Rd. in Stillwater. When officers arrived, they found one person suffering from at least two gunshot wounds.

The victim is a 21-year-old Stillwater resident. Police have not released the victim’s name. Officers obtained only a brief statement from the victim before he was taken to the hospital. The victim was later flown to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment. He is said to be in stable condition.

Preliminary information indicates the shooting was not random and that it was not a drive-by shooting, according to police.

Shortly after the investigation began, officers obtained the vehicle description of a potential witness or person of interest in the case and disseminated the information to area law enforcement officers.

Deputies with the Payne County Sheriff’s office found that vehicle south of Stillwater and got into a pursuit that ended in the Guthrie area where the vehicle was lost. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned near I-35 and Covell Rd in Oklahoma County.

The driver of the vehicle has not been found.

This investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, call the Stillwater Police Criminal Investigations Unit at (405)-372-4171 or the Stillwater PD Tips line at (405)-742-8327.
