OKC Father Facing Murder Charge In Death Of Baby Girl

A 3-month-old baby girl from Oklahoma City, who was rushed to a Tulsa hospital with severe head injuries, has died.

Police released the news on Monday that 3-month-old Janelle Martinez passed away on Sunday.

Kentrell Thomas, 21, was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on Friday, accused of child neglect, but now that the baby has died he is facing a complaint of First-Degree Murder.

Thomas had just been arrested four months before, accused of abusing the baby's mother while she was pregnant with their little girl. They also have a 1-year-old son.

News 9 checked with family member who again were too distraught to talk on camera. They still can't believe that Thomas is accused of murder in the death of his little girl.

Janelle was brought to St. Anthony Healthplex on Thursday and was rushed to children's hospital in Tulsa due to the severity of her head injury. Court documents obtained Monday reveal Thomas told police that while the baby's mother was away he was "giving her a bath" and, while he was drying her, he "dropped her and her head hit the bath tub". And then never told the mother what happened- "delaying the care for her severe injuries".

Thomas is yet to be formally arraigned. That is expected to happen in the next two days.
