Two Logan County volunteer firefighters were on their way to a Coyle house fire Wednesday when they narrowly avoided a tragedy of their own.

The engine the firefighters were in ran off Highway 105 heading east and overturned a few hundred yards away from Mendy Trejo-Martinez’s home.

“It’s horrible, because I’ve heard it before,” she said Wednesday afternoon.

She called 911, and the firefighters were taken to area hospitals.

News 9 was told by fire officials both men have been released from those hospitals, but are still very sore.

Trejo-Martinez said there have been a handful of accidents on that same stretch of Highway 105 in the past three years.

Meridian’s volunteer fire department will be down an engine, but state Volunteer Firefighters Association president Buddy Myers said it won’t be for long.

“Other departments with mutual aid agreements will respond to fires in the Meridian area, and fire departments are offering to loan them an engine until they can get a replacement for them,” he said.
