One man is in jail after running from state troopers and hiding in a nearby home, Friday morning.

Several agencies joined forces to arrest Joshua McMillan, 31, for unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Other charges may be pending.

The chase started after a motorcycle trooper attempted to stop a car for speeding on Interstate 40 just before 8:30 a.m. It lasted for nine minutes, as troopers followed the man to the intersection of Choctaw Road and 89th Street.

The man then ditched his vehicle and ran across the street onto a gated property. State troopers called in help from a Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit and their own airplane after losing sight of the suspect.

“That’s about a 15-foot iron gate. He can’t get over it, so he runs around the building. He runs southbound along the property line where there’s a gate he can get under,” said Trooper Dwight Durant.

The homeowner came outside and let three of the troopers in the house. He told them a woman was asleep inside. The woman’s niece, Teresa, says the family was shaken to learn about their uninvited guest.

“Aunt was in the house asleep and the dude went in the house,” said Teresa, “and he’s going to jail for it, so word to people that are thieves and stuff, don’t be stupid.”

Troopers got the woman out safely and quickly narrowed their search to the first floor.

“In this property, the only way to get upstairs is by an elevator,” said Durant.

They found McMillan hiding in a closet downstairs. They also found drug paraphernalia in the car he ditched.

Now the homeowner's family is tightening up their security.

“We’re going to make sure nobody gets on the property again. Even if they jump the gate, they’re going to find a little surprise,” said Teresa.

Troopers say the man may not have been alone during the chase.

“A witness that was apparently at this intersection when this car crashed out said he saw two girls get out and run into the woods right here,” said Durant.

Oklahoma City police did arrest two women coming out of the woods about a mile away, closer to I-40. Because no troopers saw them in the car at the time of the chase, however, they were released.
