OKC School Board Adopts New Report Card For Superintendent Aurora Lora

New superintendent, new school year, and now, the Oklahoma City School board has a new way of grading how Aurora Lora is doing. 

The Board adopted the new evaluation system at Monday night's meeting.

The new evaluation was developed by Oklahoma State School Boards Association. This is the first year any school district will be using the new evaluation that is largely based on student achievement.

Lora took over the top job for the Oklahoma City Public Schools this summer. She's the 11th superintendent in the district since 2000. She will be graded on her job performance differently then all those before her.

“She knows what we expect now,” school board member Bob Hammack said. “The evaluation forms are greatly reduced so she can focus on the things that are important and we can kind of look over her shoulder. So far, we think Aurora’s doing a great job.”

Board members will grade Lora in 12 different areas including student achievement which will be tied to the Great Commitment and specific, quantifiable goals for each school year.

“In order for her to meet those she has to raise grades, has to reduce the number of disciplinary actions that are taken,” said Hammack.

Instead of one report card at the end of the year, the evaluation calls for superintendents to be continually evaluated.

“We can identify problems before they really become big problems and work together to identify solutions,” said OSSBA director of communications Christy Watson.

School board member Paula Lewis said she hopes that could lead to more longevity in superintendent position.  

“Maybe by working more together as a team as the year goes on that would improve the stability and the longevity of superintendents in Oklahoma,” Watson said.
