Friends and family gathered to remember a store clerk who was fatally shot Saturday morning in Midwest City.

Midwest City police identified a 17-year-old named Samuel Myers as the shooter in the fatal encounter at GI’s Market.

Police said this teenager is dangerous and on the loose.

On Saturday morning, he walked into the convenience store. He lingered for a bit until the area was clear, and pulled out a gun to rob Salman Tahir, the clerk behind the counter.

Salman Tahir moved to America from Pakistan a few years ago. He was working at GI’s Market with hopes of moving his wife and child to Oklahoma. Friends say he was trying for two years to get his family to the states. A few weeks ago, his family was finally reunited.

That happiness ended quickly on Saturday when a robber walked into the store.

Midwest City police Chief Brandon Clabes said Myers is from Jones, Oklahoma.

“He has a violent past as a juvenile and he has obviously killed one person and our hopes are we will be able to put him in custody before he kills someone else,” Clabes said.

The surveillance video shows Myers pulling out a gun and pointing it at Tahir. He then goes behind the counter, grabs the money, and shoots out the surveillance monitor. The video not shown to the public is when he shoots Tahir in the back.

Police said Tahir did everything he should have done and cooperated with the armed robber’s demands.

Tahir, 33, was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive.

Friends remembered Tahir at his memorial service on Tuesday at his mosque. He was a staple to that corner store and had regular customers that became fast friends. Tahir is remembered as a loving husband and father with an unforgettable smile.

Teddy bears, letters and candles surround the outside of GI’s Market, along with signs posted of Samuel Myers.

Police think they have found the murder weapons. They’ve also wiped finger prints off of items in the store and are hoping to catch Myers soon.
