Midwest City police are looking for a man who fatally shot a convenience store clerk even after getting what he wanted during a robbery.

One loyal customer found the clerk and is hoping he will get justice.

"Imagine someone you know, who brings a bright spot to your day, every day, suddenly being gone," Darrel Mills said.

For Mills, that person was Salman Tahir, better known to his customers as "Sam." The store clerk at GI's Market is best remembered for his kind heart and contagious smile.

"I miss him already," Mills cried like so many other customers. "I saw him every day."

Many customers brought flowers, bears, and kind words to the scene of the crime.

Mills' daily routine was anything but that on Saturday. He said when he walked into the store and Sam was nowhere to be seen.

"I noticed the cash register door was open and all of the money was gone and I was like, 'Oh no,'" Mills said.

Mills said he found Tahir lying on the floor and Tahir was still breathing. He called for help and then did what he could to keep Tahir conscious.

"I'm tapping his face and I'm going 'Sam, Sam, we are going to get you some help,'" said Mills.

Sam did not survive.

The suspect loitered in the store, eventually pulled a gun on Tahir and demanded money from the register. After getting the cash, police said the suspect shot the clerk in the back.

Now, customers are doing what they can to help police find the killer. They passed out fliers with surveillance pictures of the suspect entering the store. Many are trying to raise money for a reward that would lead to the arrest of the suspect. The store is also collecting donations to help Tahir's family.

At last check, the suspect is still on the run and Tahir's family is grieving.

He leaves behind a wife and toddler. His memorial is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grand Mosque on NW 48th Street in Oklahoma City.

According to the owners of GI's Market, the sign over the door could soon say "Sam's Corner."
