The investigation into the gruesome stabbings of three horses in northwest Oklahoma City is hitting roadblocks.
So the owners of two of the horses are hoping a cash reward will yield some answers.
When someone stabbed Megan Largent-Carpenter’s horse to death last month a part of her died too.
"She was the only connection I still had to riding and showing and so it was devastating and she just didn't deserve it," Largent-Carpenter said.
Someone had stabbed the horse, named RT, short for Royalty, right through the neck twice using a long knife or sword. The horse was stabbed several other times, too. Largent-Carpenter's grandmother found the horse’s body.
"Get up closer and then it's just, you see it,” Joan Manning said. “Called my husband and said get out here."
Back in December, someone killed another one of the family’s horses. They believe that was done by a family member who had a beef with them over rent.
That person is locked up in a California jail on unrelated charges.
The horse killings continued, first with a neighbors horse being slaughtered then with someone killing Largent-Carpenter’s horse last month.
"Very heinous type crime,” said Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight. “I mean these horses are large, beautiful animals and they're stabbed to death. That's not something that somebody just takes upon themselves to do out of the blue. That's something that they put some planning into it to know exactly how they were going to do this plan."
So the family is now offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
They think whoever killed these horses is dangerous.
“Because if people do this to an innocent animal, no person, animal, anyone is safe,” Largent-Carpenter said. “So one is safe."
