A bicyclist is counting his blessings after being hit by a car on Northwest 39 Expressway.

"I don’t know why it happened to me but for some reason it did," said Corey Green.

Green, 35, said his bicycle is his main form of transportation.

The bike was outfitted with a blinking light, reflectors, and "all appropriate markings" were in place at the time of the accident, according to Bethany police.

Green had just pulled off the bike trails and said he was headed home down Northwest 39 Expressway when he heard the car coming for him.

"I know the noises and the sounds but this one just sounded too different," he said.

Green was tossed from the bike. Witnesses said he flew in the air and landed 20 feet away.

"I just felt being hit so hard and I didn’t know what to think," Green said his body ached and the driver rushed to comfort him. "She was really nice ... she stopped and told me I was going to be OK."

Green went to hospital. His face is now covered in bandages to shield the many cuts and bruises.

He said his legs are sore but he is grateful to be alive.

Despite, all that he will have to deal with -- medical bills with no insurance, time out of work to recover, and the pain -- Green has no animosity toward the driver who hit him.

He only hopes she'll make better decisions in the future.

The driver, Tanya Stevens, 32, was arrested at the scene of the crash.

Bethany police arrested Stevens on suspicion of driving under the influence with a child in the car.

She was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaint of DUI, child endangerment, obstructing an officer and making violent threats at the time of her arrest.

At last check, she is being held on $18,500 bond.
