An Oklahoma County deputy goes above and beyond the call of duty.

“He was a guardian angel that day that's for sure,” said April Eller, of Oklahoma City.

Eller was heading home from the Brand Senior Center on Friday when she had a blow out along NE 27 Street in Moore.

“It was real loud bang,” she said. “I thought 'oh no, what am I going to do?’”

She pulled over in front of First Moore Baptist Church and put on her hazards.

“I was just driving by and I saw her pulled off to the side of the road and where she was at was a really bad spot,” said deputy Chris Massey with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Even though Massey was off-duty, he stopped.

“I wanted to make sure she was all right,” he said. “I saw her tire, it was completed shredded, and it was blown out.”

So, he changed her tire using the spare in her trunk, but it was flat. He then followed her down to the nearest gas station to get her off the busy road. Then, he drove over to Discount Tire and bought her a new one and even put it on for her.

“I just thought you know this is my chance to pay it forward or help somebody out that really needs it more than I do,” he said.

Looking at her brand new tire, Eller said she could never thank Massey enough.

"Today is 9/11 and we're remembering all the things that have happened, you know, on that day, that we have people like him to give us hope that people still care,” she said.

Eller offered to pay him back, but he didn't take a dime.
