OU's Ward Sings As Well As She Sets

Bump. Set. Spike. And sing. That's life for Madison Ward. 

"I tend to lean toward R&B and Soul," said Ward, who's a senior outside hitter on the OU volleyball team. "When I was real little, my mom played the piano at church, and I grew up listening to gospel music at home and that was just something I would be practicing." 

"I never performed, I never was in vocal. I wasn't forced into anything performance based." 

Not until she was discovered. 

"I think some people in the cafeteria here at school recorded, and asked me to sing something while I was eating after weights," said the Lawton native. 

And then it was onto YouTube, and local gigs. The fifth year senior is fantastic on the mic, and good on the court, too.  She's on the team in second in attacks, and third in kills. 

"Just a phenomenal player, her vertical is outta the sky, just crazy insane," said Micaela Spann, Ward's OU teammate. 

Ward is planning for pro music career when she's done with volleyball. 

"That's gonna be the next step, jumping into it wholeheartedly." 

"Oh, 100% she has a star quality," added Spann.
