A costly blunder by an otherwise reputable Edmond car care center had a local man contacting News 9 this past weekend.

Matt Price, 22, said he took his 2008 Chevrolet to Precision Tune Auto Care last Thursday for an oil change.

Precision Tune admits their tech forgot to re-insert the oil plug, which quickly ruined Price’s engine shortly after he drove away from the business because all of the oil poured out of his car.

Price said his vehicle is worth twice the $2,000 he claims Precision Tune offered him, which he rejected.

He also said he rejected their offer of a replacement engine.

“I have been offered a motor with 110,000 miles on it.  Also with no record on it … so if it goes out I am not in a good situation,” he said.

The old engine in Price’s car had 147,000 miles on it.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Price told News 9 he will consider Precision Tune’s offer to “guarantee” the replacement engine for a year, or for 12,000 miles.

The Better Business Bureau of Central Oklahoma said Precision Tune has an “A Plus” rating, and there has been only one complaint lodged against the company in the past year.

But the BBB said Price is “welcome to file a complaint” with the BBB.

A co-owner of Precision Tune told News 9 late Tuesday afternoon they have been trying to work with Price since the error occurred.

Price said his car is important to him, because he needs it to get to his job operating a forklift for a local courier.
