Police Investigate Report Of Shooting In Northeast OKC

Oklahoma City Police are investigating a shooting that occurred near NE 14th St. and Kelham Ave just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. This is very close to both Moon Middle School and KIPP Academy.

The call first went out as a trouble unknown but then was confirmed as a shooting. Police say one man who was shot was taken to OU Medical Center in a private car and underwent surgery.

Police are still waiting to question him, but for some this happened too close to home, and way too close to the kids who were attending school nearby.

When police arrived, they found several spent shell casings in the middle of the street, and several concerned residents both inside and outside their homes. News of the shooting spread quickly, causing people like Brenda Holland to show up to see what all the fuss was about.

“Well my great grandbabies go to school right down there at Moon,” said Holland. “And then my grandchildren went to the Avery Elementary School and I was really concerned about the children.”

Police blocked off the entire block of NE 14th St., between Kelham Ave. and Missouri Ave., for about two hours. A spokesperson with the Oklahoma City Public School District and KIPP Academy confirm they did a lockout at all the nearby schools until police cleared the scene.

One woman who has lived near that intersection for 30 years says this is the first time something like this has happened along her street, but says she's concerned about some of the people she's seen walking around her neighborhood.

She's too afraid to go on camera as a result, but she did make sure to call 911. She says she hopes police find the person responsible before something like this happens again.

“Everybody be careful,” said Holland. “Don't trust everybody, just God.”
