Arrest Warrant Issued For Metro Man Charged With Multiple Child Sex Crimes

A metro man was charged with multiple counts of child sex crimes after an alleged sexual relationship with a young teenage girl since August 2015.

An Oklahoma County judge charged 31-year-old Erick Coats on Thursday with nine separate counts of child sex crimes; including First-Degree Rape, Second-Degree Rape and Oral Sodomy for his part in the alleged relationship. 

According to court documents, Coats had been involved with the teen since she was 13-years-old. Midwest City Police began investigating in November 2015, when the victim’s aunt contacted authorities when her niece told her she thought Coats was cheating on her. The aunt told police that her niece did not think the relationship was wrong.

Midwest City Police were contacted again in June 2016, this time by the victim’s older sister who told investigators the teen was in a sexual relationship with Coats. The sister told police that the victim showed her lewd text messages sent from Coats. The phone was then booked into evidence.

In July the victim’s older sister again contacted police and told them that the teen was willing to talk. During a police interview the victim detailed several alleged sexual encounters she had had with Coats. Investigators were also able to confirm that the victim had been treated for two sexually transmitted diseases during the course of the relationship.

Coats is not in custody at this time, but an arrest warrant was filed Thursday morning.
