A romantic rendezvous between a 16-year-old and her 31-year-old boyfriend ended in gunfire on Monday.

“That could be like her Dad. That’s kind of terrible,” Paoli resident Brandon Jones said.

Jones is referring the relationship between 31-year-old Brandon Vail and a 16-year-old girl in his neighborhood.

A court affidavit states Valerie Fowler made a surprise stop at her home and found daughter in bed with Vail.

Some neighbors said even if the 16-year-old was in bed with someone her own age, there would've been problems.

“Excuse my language, but he would’ve gotten his a** kicked and then I would’ve went to his parents and we would’ve had a talk about it,” said Paoli resident Tommy Smith.

According to court records, the teenager told investigators that Vail comes and visits her at least three times a week.

“If it was my daughter, he would’ve never got out of the house,” Smith said.

According to police Fowler shot at Vail twice and hit him both times.

Police said while Fowler was arrested, it's unlikely Vail will be charged with anything because, at 16, her daughter is within the age of consent.

“A lot of people have a lot of issues morally and even religiously in some cases but as far as law goes, as long as she consents she has the legal right to do so,” Paoli police Chief Mike Lewis said.

Fowler is out of jail on bond and is awaiting arraignment.
