A brazen spree of car burglaries late Tuesday and early Wednesday in Yukon was thwarted by an alert police officer. According to police, four Oklahoma City men are responsible for at least 12 burglaries.

Police say the men stole hundreds of dollars in cash, more than $2,000 in electronics, and at least one purse from 12 vehicles that were left unlocked in area neighborhoods.

Police stopped the vehicle the men were riding in on West Main Street because it had a broken tail light and was absent of a tag light.

Police Major Mitch Hoskins said the suspects were engaged in something called “Car Hopping.”

“Basically going through random neighborhoods, and they’ll put a couple people out on foot, and the driver will drive around with his headlights off, and they’ll just go by and shake the door handles on cars until they find something unlocked, they’ll rifle through the car, take, change, items that are left in the vehicle,” said Major Hoskins.

Police say they also found marijuana and a loaded .45 caliber magazine and marijuana in the car.

“I was absolutely impressed by the Yukon Police.  They um were so professional, they came to the house, they woke us up, but I was very appreciative,” said Micah Pillmore, who’s purse was stolen by the suspects.
