MLSOK Inc, a subsidiary corporation of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® (OKCMAR), is updating lockboxes used for home showings in Oklahoma City with a new high-tech tool.

OKCMAR President Rodney Burgamy urges home sellers to request that their real estate agents upgrade to the next-generation devices, which improve on older options by adding technology and tracking that improve safety and security of their homes.

“The current lockboxes are outdated and are designed to last approximately seven years. It is important to upgrade the devices to ensure reliable and secure entry into properties. This critical update ensures our REALTORS® stay at the forefront of the industry,” Burgamy said.

Officials said the new electronic lockboxes are only accessible via a smartphone or tablet e-key or an “active key” device. The enhanced technology allows licensed real estate agents to program the box to only open during selected hours. For example, homeowners can choose to make a home inaccessible at night as an anti-burglary measure. The boxes also allow REALTORS® to track who visited the house and when by providing specific, real-time data.

The large metal casing is sealed from the environment, so officials said it can withstand Oklahoma’s weather. It cannot be easily removed or damaged.

The organization is holding lockbox exchanges from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Tower Hotel, located at 3233 NW Expressway in Oklahoma City.

“We are asking our REALTORS® to bring in their old lockboxes in exchange for the new device,” Burgamy said, “Protecting our community’s home sellers and buyers with this upgraded technology is a major key to safety.”

OKCMAR is a membership organization consisting of 3,300 REALTORS® and affiliate members and over 5,200 members. If you have any questions concerning the updated lockbox, contact the organization at (405)-840-1493 or learn more here
