An Oklahoma City man died after crashing his motorcycle into a tree in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, Sunday afternoon.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP,) just after 12 p.m. troopers responded to the crash on State Highway 1, just west of US 259 Road, about three miles north and five miles east of Muse.

The motorcycle was reportedly westbound on SH 1 when it ran off the road to the left, striking a tree. The motorcyclist, later identified as 77-year-old Gilbert Cartledge of Oklahoma City, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, troopers said.

Cartledge’s condition at the time of the crash was apparently normal. The cause of the collision has been listed as “unsafe speed on curve/turn” in the OHP collision report.
