Isotopes Shutout Dodgers As OKC Drops Second Straight Game

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma City Dodgers dropped their second straight game to the Isotopes, as five Albuquerque pitchers combined to shut out OKC 1-0 in the series finale at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Friday marked Oklahoma City’s third shutout loss of the season, as the Dodgers were held to four hits for the second straight night.

With the victory, Albuquerque took the final two games of the four-game set against the Dodgers to win the lone series of the season between the teams, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 9,567.

After a ground-rule double by Oklahoma City’s Andrew Toles opened the bottom of the sixth inning, Albuquerque pitchers combined to retire 10 of the final 12 Dodgers batters, allowing two walks during the stretch.

Isotopes starting pitcher Matt Flemer tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out three.

Reliever Nelson Gonzalez (3-3) followed with a scoreless sixth inning to earn the win. Pitchers Patrick McCoy and Justin Miller, on a rehab assignment from the Rockies, combined to pitch two scoreless and hitless innings. Pitcher Simon Castro earned his seventh save of the season with a scoreless and hitless ninth inning.

Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart tossed five scoreless frames, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out one. Over his last two starts, Stewart has now pitched eight scoreless innings.

Sam LeCure (5-3) replaced Stewart on the mound for the sixth inning and the Isotopes broke through the scoreless tie between the teams in the seventh inning.

With two outs, Pat Valaika hit a RBI single on a grounder to right field to give Albuquerque a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers suffered their third shutout loss of the season and first since a 10-0 loss June 10 against Nashville in Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers closed out an eight-game homestand Friday night. They next open a four-game road series against the New Orleans Zephyrs at 6 p.m. Saturday at Zephyr Field.
